Course Objectives: | By the end of the course "Oral, Dental, and Maxillofacial Surgery I," students will develop the skills necessary for comprehensive preoperative patient evaluations and medical history taking, with the ability to modify surgical approaches for patients with systemic diseases. They will be adept at managing dental emergencies and applying infection control techniques specific to surgical procedures. The course will cover fundamental surgical principles, including wound healing and infection control, and provide proficiency in basic and complex oral surgery techniques, such as routine and impacted tooth extractions. Students will learn effective postoperative patient management and gain familiarity with sterilization, disinfection, asepsis, and antisepsis in surgical settings. They will understand the use and techniques of surgical instruments, incisions, flaps, and sutures, and develop skills in bleeding control with hemostatic agents. Additionally, students will learn to manage complications during oral surgery and the postoperative care of surgical areas. Practical application of these skills will be emphasized, enabling students to perform basic oral surgical interventions with a thorough understanding of their indications, techniques, and potential complications. |
Course Content: | Introduction to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Patient Examinations, Systemic diseases, Surgical evaluation of the patient, Asepsis and Antisepsis, Surgical Anatomy, Laboratory and Radiological examinations, Wound healing and complications, Preoperative preparation-postoperative care, Incision and suture techniques, Dental Extraction, Impacted teeth and surgery. Dersin İçeriği (İngilizce) At the end of this course, the student will be able to evaluate patients preoperatively and take their medical history, modify surgical approaches based on systemic diseases, manage emergencies encountered in dentistry, apply infection control techniques, understand basic surgical principles, wound healing, infection control methods, fundamental oral surgery principles, routine tooth extraction techniques, complex tooth extraction techniques, postoperative patient management, and principles of impacted tooth extraction, in a detailed and decision-making capacity. |
